Community guidelines
JeevanJodi is for adults who are serious about marriage. These guidelines apply to every member and every Family Co-pilot, in profiles, photos, messages, calls and meetings.
Last updated:
What we expect
- Be truthful. Your name, age, marital status, education, work, family details and photos must be real and current.
- Be here for marriage. Join only if you are free to marry and genuinely looking for a spouse.
- Be respectful. Speak to every member, and to their family, as you would want your own family spoken to. Accept a "no" the first time.
- Protect privacy. What another member shares with you is for you and your family only.
What is not allowed
These are the things members can report in the app, and that we act on.
Fake identity or misrepresentation
False names, ages, photos, marital status, qualifications, jobs or income. Pretending to be another person. Running more than one account.
Harassment or disrespectful behaviour
Abuse, insults, threats, intimidation, stalking, repeated contact after someone has declined, or pressure of any kind.
Requests for money, gifts or dowry
Asking any member or their family for money, gifts, loans, travel costs, investments or dowry, however it is worded. Offering or demanding dowry is against the law in India.
Inappropriate photos or messages
Sexual or obscene content, nudity, sexual advances or requests, and violent or shocking images.
Already married, or not seeking marriage
Using the service while married, hiding an existing marriage, or looking for casual relationships, dating or anything other than marriage.
Under the legal age
Anyone under 18 may not use JeevanJodi, and a marriage profile requires the legal age of marriage (18 for women, 21 for men). Any sexual content involving a child, or any attempt to exploit a child, leads to an immediate ban and a report to the authorities. See our child safety standards.
Anything that puts a member's safety at risk
Threats of violence, blackmail, coercion, sharing or threatening to share private photos or messages, or showing up uninvited.
Also not allowed
- Hate speech. Attacking or demeaning people because of religion, caste, community, region, language, gender, disability, skin colour or any similar characteristic. Stating your own preferences for a partner is allowed. Insulting others is not.
- Impersonation. Posing as another person, as a member's relative, or as JeevanJodi staff.
- Solicitation and commercial use. Advertising, selling, recruiting, promoting other services (including marriage bureaus and agents), or collecting members' details.
- Sharing other people's private data. Posting or passing on another person's phone number, address, documents, photos or messages without their consent.
- Illegal activity of any kind, and attempts to get around a block, a sanction or a limit.
We do not tolerate sexual content involving minors, sexual exploitation, threats of violence, blackmail, or requests for dowry or money. Accounts involved are removed from the service, and we report unlawful conduct to the authorities as required by applicable law.
How to report
- In the app. Use Report on a profile, a photo, a message or a conversation. Choose the reason that fits best and add details if you can.
- Without the app. Email support@jeevanjodi.net with what happened and, if you can, the name shown on the profile.
- Reports are confidential. The member you report is never told who reported them.
- We aim to review reports within 24 hours. Reports about safety, a member who may be under age, or a request for money are treated as high priority.
If you are in immediate danger, contact the police first. In India, call 112.
How to block
You can block any member from their profile or from a conversation. A blocked member can no longer see your profile or contact you, and they are not told that you blocked them. You can report and block at the same time.
What we may do
Each report opens a case that our moderation staff review. Depending on what we find, we may:
- take no action, if the guidelines were not broken;
- remove a photo, message or other content;
- give a warning;
- apply a restriction that limits some features;
- apply a suspension for a period;
- apply a ban, which closes the account and can stop the same mobile number from registering again.
A suspension or a ban takes effect only after a second member of staff approves it. A sanction applies to one account. It is not extended to a member's family or co-pilots.
Appeals
If you believe a decision about your account is mistaken, you can appeal from the Safety Centre in the app within 30 days. A different member of our team, who was not involved in the original decision, reviews the appeal.
