Safety tips

Most people looking for a spouse are sincere. A few are not. These habits protect you and your family while you get to know someone.

In an emergency

If you are in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first.

  • Emergency response (India)112
  • Women helpline (India)181
  • Cyber crime helpline (India)1930

To report cyber crime online in India, use the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal at cybercrime.gov.in.

The essentials

Never send money

A genuine match will not ask for money, gifts, loans, travel costs or investments. Report any such request, however it is worded.

Meet in a public place

Choose a public venue for early meetings, tell a family member or friend where you will be, and arrange your own transport.

Keep early conversations here

Share your phone number, home address and financial details only when you and your family are comfortable.

Check verification

A verification badge confirms the checks we completed. It is not a guarantee of character. Take your time and involve people you trust.

Report and block freely

Reports are confidential. The other member is never told who reported or blocked them.

Before you meet

  • Take your time. There is no need to hurry a decision about marriage.
  • Talk in the app first. Ask questions and see whether the answers stay consistent.
  • Involve a parent, sibling or friend early. You can invite one as a Family Co-pilot.
  • Have a video or phone conversation before meeting in person, and let your family speak to theirs.
  • Check what you can independently: workplace, education and family details.

When you meet

  • Meet in a public place, in daylight if you can.
  • Tell someone where you are going, who you are meeting and when you expect to be back.
  • Arrange your own transport there and back.
  • Keep your phone charged, and keep your belongings, food and drink with you.
  • Leave if you feel uncomfortable. You do not owe anyone an explanation.

Warning signs

  • Any request for money, gifts, loans, investments, gift cards or help with a "customs fee" or an emergency.
  • Pressure to move quickly to another app, or to keep the conversation secret from your family.
  • Reluctance to speak on a call, to meet, or to introduce family.
  • A story that changes, or details that do not match the profile.
  • Requests for intimate photos, or for your identity documents, bank details, passwords or one-time passcodes.
  • Declarations of love or talk of marriage very early, before you have met.
  • Any mention of dowry.

If you see any of these, stop, talk to someone you trust, and report the member.

What verification means

Our staff review a selfie and a government photo ID before a profile is published. The verification badge shows that those checks were completed. It does not confirm a person's character, income, marital history or intentions. Keep using your own judgement.

Report and block

  • Use Report on a profile, photo, message or conversation in the app. Reports are confidential.
  • Use Block to stop a member from seeing your profile or contacting you. They are not told.
  • If you cannot use the app, write to support@jeevanjodi.net.
  • If you have lost money or been threatened, also report it to the police or the cyber crime helpline. Keep the messages as evidence.

Read the community guidelines for what is not allowed and what we do about it.

Protect your account

  • Never share a one-time passcode with anyone.
  • Use your privacy settings to choose who sees your profile, photos and contact details.
  • If you think someone else has used your account, sign out of all devices in the app and contact support.
