Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal data JeevanJodi collects, why we collect it, who can see it, how long we keep it, and the choices you have.

1. Who we are

JeevanJodi is a matrimonial service for adults in India. It is offered through the JeevanJodi mobile app and this website. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean the operator of JeevanJodi, and "you" means a member or a visitor.

We decide why and how the personal data described here is used. A matrimonial profile contains personal and sometimes sensitive information, such as religion and community. We ask for it because it is what members and families look for when considering a marriage, and you choose what to provide beyond the required fields.

2. What we collect

Information you give us

  • Mobile number. Used to create your account and to sign you in with a one-time passcode sent by SMS.
  • Date of birth. Used to confirm you are an adult and to show your age on your profile.
  • Email address, if you choose to add one.
  • Profile details. The profile is built in sections: basic identity, location and origins, photos and visibility, about you and values, education and career, lifestyle and habits, family context, culture and faith, marriage plans, partner preferences, deal-breakers. Depending on what you fill in, this includes your name, gender, marital status, height, mother tongue and languages, religion, community and sub-community, where you live and where you are from, education, occupation, employer and an income band, family details (such as parents' occupations, siblings and family values), diet and lifestyle habits, your marriage plans, and a short description of yourself.
  • Partner preferences and deal-breakers. What you are looking for in a partner, and which points matter most to you.
  • Birth details for kundli (time and place of birth, manglik status). These are optional and are stored only with your consent. JeevanJodi does not currently compute kundli matching.
  • Photos you upload to your profile.
  • Verification documents. A selfie and an image of a government photo ID (passport, voter ID, driving licence). These are reviewed by our staff. See section 6 for how long they are kept.
  • Who is creating the profile. Whether the profile is made by the person themselves or by a parent, sibling, relative or friend.
  • Consents. A record of each consent you give or withdraw, with the document version, the time and your IP address.

Information created when you use the service

  • Interests and connections. Interests you send and receive, any note you add, and who you are connected to.
  • Messages and attachments you exchange with your connections, and requests to schedule a call or a meeting.
  • Shortlists, private notes and feedback you record about profiles and meetings.
  • Search history and profile views. The searches you run, searches you save, and which profiles you viewed.
  • Reports and blocks. Reports you make, reports made about you, members you block, and the moderation cases, decisions and appeals that follow.
  • Family Co-pilot. Who you invited (their mobile number), the permissions you gave, and a log of what a co-pilot did on your profile.
  • Support and privacy requests. Tickets and messages you send to our support team, and requests you make about your data.
  • Plan and payment records. Your plan and usage against its daily limits. Online payment is not enabled yet; see section 5.

Information from your device

  • Device details. A device identifier generated by the app, the platform (for example Android), the app version and, if push notifications are enabled in future, a push notification token. Push notifications are not currently in use.
  • IP address and user agent. Recorded when you sign in or attempt to sign in, when you give consent, and for active sessions.

The app does not contain advertising software or third-party analytics tools, and we do not track you across other apps or websites. This website does not set cookies on its information pages. The account deletion form sets a session cookie that is needed to protect the form.

3. How we use your data

  • To run your account: signing you in, keeping your sessions secure, and confirming you are old enough to use the service.
  • To show your profile to other members, within the visibility settings you choose.
  • To recommend profiles and run searches. Recommendations are based on what you and the other member have each said about yourselves and your preferences, including any required preferences and deal-breakers. We do not show a numeric compatibility score.
  • To verify identity: our staff compare your selfie and ID document with your profile.
  • To let you connect and talk with members who have accepted your interest, or whose interest you accepted.
  • To keep members safe: handling reports, moderating content, applying and reviewing sanctions, and detecting abuse such as repeated sign-in attempts.
  • To support you: answering tickets and handling privacy requests.
  • To send service messages, such as the sign-in passcode and notices about your account. Marketing messages are sent only if you have opted in.
  • To meet legal duties, such as keeping financial records and responding to lawful requests from authorities.

We rely on your consent, given when you register and when you choose to add optional information, and on other grounds the law allows, such as meeting a legal duty. We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell it.

4. Who can see your data

Other members

Other members can see your published profile and photos, within your settings. You can:

  • set your profile and your photos to be visible to members, to your connections only, or hidden;
  • choose whether your employer and income band are shown;
  • choose whether your contact details are shared with your connections, or never shared;
  • choose whether you appear in discovery, and whether others can see when you were last active;
  • pause your profile at any time.

Your mobile number, date of birth, verification documents and private notes are not shown on your profile. Members you have blocked cannot see you, and you cannot see them. A member you report or block is not told who did it.

Family co-pilots

If you invite a Family Co-pilot, they see only what the permissions you grant allow: your profile, your recommendations and your progress. They can suggest profiles and add notes. They cannot read your conversations and cannot act on your behalf. You can remove a co-pilot at any time.

Our staff

Staff access is limited by role. Personal details such as phone numbers are masked by default in our admin tools. Revealing a masked detail, and opening verification documents or moderation evidence, is recorded in an audit log. Staff sign in with a second factor from an authenticator app.

5. Who we share data with

We share personal data with the following recipients only:

RecipientWhat is sharedWhy
MSG91 (SMS provider)Your mobile numberTo send the one-time passcode you use to sign in and to confirm sensitive actions.
Our hosting providerAll data held by the serviceThe service runs on servers operated for us by a hosting provider.
AuthoritiesOnly what a request coversWhen the law requires it, or to report serious harm such as child sexual abuse material. See our child safety standards.
  • Payments. Online payment is not enabled, and no payment provider receives your data today. Before paid plans go on sale we will update this policy to name the payment provider and describe what is shared with it.
  • Notifications. No push notification, WhatsApp or email provider receives your data today. If we add one, we will update this policy first.
  • No advertising, no data sale. We do not share personal data with advertisers or data brokers, and we do not sell personal data.
  • App stores. If you install the app from an app store, that store's own privacy policy applies to the data it collects.
  • Business transfer. If the service is ever transferred to another operator, your data would move with it under this policy, and we would tell you beforehand.

6. How long we keep data

This is our current retention schedule. A daily process deletes data that has passed its period. We may change these periods, for example on legal advice. If we do, we will update this page.

Banned accounts. If an account is banned, we keep a keyed, one-way hash of its mobile number so that the same number cannot be used to register again. We do not keep the number itself for this purpose. The entry is removed if the ban is lifted.

Backups. Deletion removes data from the live service. Copies held in system backups are not removed immediately.

7. Deleting your account

You can delete your account in the app, or ask us through the account deletion page if you cannot use the app. In the app, we ask you to confirm with a one-time passcode sent to your number.

  • Your profile is hidden from other members immediately.
  • You have 14 days to change your mind and cancel.
  • After that, your account is erased. Your profile, photos, preferences, verification documents, saved items, search history, devices and notifications are deleted. Your mobile number, email address and date of birth are removed from the account.
  • The text of messages you sent is replaced with a note that the message was removed, so the other person's conversation still makes sense. Attachments you sent are deleted.
  • The text of your support tickets is removed.
  • The records listed in the second table above are kept for the periods shown.

Legal holds. If we are required to preserve data, for example by a court order or a law-enforcement request, erasure and routine deletion wait until that requirement ends.

8. Your choices and requests

  • See and correct your data. You can view and edit your profile in the app at any time.
  • Download a copy. Request an export in the app under Settings, then Privacy. We prepare a ZIP file of your data and photos. The download is available only to you and expires after 72 hours. The export does not include other members' private data, such as messages they sent to you.
  • Delete some data. You can remove photos and clear or change profile fields without closing your account.
  • Hide or pause. You can hide your profile from discovery or pause it.
  • Withdraw consent. You can withdraw optional consents (marketing messages, WhatsApp updates) in the app. Consent to the terms and to this policy is needed to use the service; you withdraw it by deleting your account.
  • Make a privacy request. In the app you can submit a request for access, correction, erasure or restriction, or raise a grievance. Each request is given an internal due date. These are currently set as follows: access 30 days, correction 15 days, erasure 30 days, restriction 15 days, grievance 15 days.
  • Without the app. Email support@jeevanjodi.net from any address and tell us the mobile number on your account. We will confirm your identity through that number before acting.

9. How we protect data

  • Photos, verification documents and attachments are stored privately and are served only through short-lived links to people allowed to see them.
  • Sign-in uses a one-time passcode with limits on attempts and resends.
  • Staff access is permission-based, masked by default, protected by a second factor, and audited.
  • You can see your active devices and sign out of all of them from the app.

No system is perfectly secure. If you believe your account has been accessed by someone else, contact us straight away.

10. Adults only

JeevanJodi is for adults. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. Registration is refused on our servers if the date of birth given is under 18. A marriage profile also requires the legal minimum age of marriage in India: 18 for women and 21 for men.

If you believe a member is under age, report the profile in the app using the reason "May be under the legal age", or write to us. See our child safety standards.

11. Changes to this policy

We will update this page when the service or the law changes, and change the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will tell members in the app, and ask for consent again where that is required.

12. Contact and complaints

For any question about your data, write to support@jeevanjodi.net. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can write to our grievance officer, Yatin Thakur, at hello@jeevanjodi.net. The grievance page explains how.
